Relationship Coaching

What is the Difference Between Relationship Coaching and Relationship Counseling?

Relationship coaching is action-oriented and focused on the present and future. It helps clients improve their relationships by developing communication skills, identifying limiting attitudes, and setting goals to improve them. Relationship coaching is typically shorter in duration than therapy and does not diagnose. Relationship coaches can practice worldwide.

Relationship therapy, rooted in psychology, addresses previous issues and healing emotional wounds. It aims to help partners understand the underlying issues causing relationship problems. Some common goals of couples therapy include developing productive communication, improving intimacy, and identifying the root cause of behavior patterns. Relationship therapists must practice in the states in which they are licensed.

Unlike many coaches, I am licensed with a doctorate as a relationship therapist. I have combined my clinical skills with a coaching approach that allows me to be directive, giving you results that will transform your relationship(s).  My education and training enable me to bring my clients the best support, techniques, and evidence-based practice to facilitate change.

Why Consider a Relationship Coach?

Do you want a satisfying, passionate, committed relationship full of trust, security, intimacy, and affection? Are you and your partner(s) struggling to get there, or are you trying to keep the spark alive? Do you want your relationship to be a priority, but it has fallen behind? Is your sex life suffering? Have your communication and conversations turned into confrontation and conflict? Are you curious about opening your relationship but don’t know where to start? Has there been an affair or cheating, and you are on the verge of breaking up or divorcing? Are you sick and tired of being frustrated and hurt? You and your partner(s) are unsure how to get out of this rut, but you know you want and need more from this relationship.

Here are some reasons why people seek out relationship coaches:

You and your partner(s) are stuck in a rut.

If you are stuck in your relationship(s), I will help you identify and break these patterns by examining them through a different lens.

You want to improve your communication skills and heal conflict.

Effective communication is critical in any relationship. We all want to be seen and heard. I will teach you how to express yourself clearly and listen actively.

You feel emotionally disconnected and detached from your partner(s).

I will assist you in identifying the disconnection and teach and coach you the skills needed to reconnect.

Your sex is not as passionate as it was in the past, or it is sexless.

It is common for sex to drop off in long-term intimate relationships. I will teach and coach you with the skills needed to reclaim the desire and sex that you deserve. The goal is to get curious about your partner(s) and creative with sexual activity.

You had an affair or cheated and are unsure how to work through it, and the trust has been broken.

This is the ultimate betrayal in a relationship. I will coach you through my three-step infidelity recovery process. Please remember that it is up to you what you want to do with your relationship.

You are curious about opening your relationship but need help navigating non-monogamy.

I will help you build the foundation in your relationship to succeed in this process and identify your insecurities. Please remember that both of you must be curious about opening up your relationship. Otherwise, this will not work.

You are considering a separation or divorce.

Unfortunately, relationships can reach this point. But there is hope. I will assess and identify your needs and introduce you to discernment coaching. This coaching involves extensively evaluating the relationship or marriage and discussing why separation or divorce is being considered.

Is Relationship Coaching Right for You?

Now for the big question: should you hire a relationship coach? Here are some things to consider:

Your level of commitment

Working with me requires time, effort, and often a financial investment. Are you ready to put in the work?

Your openness to feedback

I will challenge you and provide honest feedback. Are you open to constructive criticism?

Your specific needs

Do you have particular areas of your relationship you want to improve? Having clear goals will be beneficial.

Your budget

Relationship coaching can be a significant investment. Consider whether it fits your budget and whether the benefits outweigh the costs.

Relationship coaching can be a powerful tool for improving your relationship. Working with a relationship coach could be a game-changer if you're committed to personal growth, open to feedback, and ready to invest in your romantic future.

Remember that a relationship coach is a guide, not a magician. While I can provide valuable insights and strategies, ultimately, it is up to you to improve your relationship.

Clients in non-monogamous, polyamorous, and kink relationships are welcomed.

Sessions are held weekly, with the option to have sessions every other week or monthly. They run for 50 or 90 minutes. Please contact (757) 582-3233 or drleephillips@gmail.com to schedule a free consultation.
